lol only in the womens division do you hear bout this. us guys have to big of egos to turn down a fight in front of everyone. either way i think its about time someone does this because a lot of people get away with not making weight and then you see the guys on TUF not being able to and they get the big FU get out. i personally hope this happens more often. if you cant make weight stay out of that weight class

Just because Cyborg is one of the biggest names in women's MMA doesn't mean that she shouldn't have to make weight. come on now, can you imagine if Cyborg and Gina fight, and they both dont make weight. They are the 2 biggest names in women's mma, but they both cant make weight? EVERYONE IN THIS FORUM WOULD HEAR MY BRAIN, FART.

People wont take females MMA serious if that were to happen. i hope this is a learning experience for Cyborg and Gina aswell.

The fight is back on. Cyborg had until 8pm local time to cut to 149.5 pounds, she was successful in meeting that weight.

The problem was in whether or not Akano would agree to a catchweight contest (even though she gets paid whether or not there is a fight tonight), and after originally saying no she relented and did.

I don't think Cyborg/Gina will be an issue. They'll just fight at 155...problem solved.

The real problem is that there aren't enough competitors. The only division with any depth in America is 135 lbs, and Cyborg and Carano are both 150-lb fighters and would probably drop dead if they tried to cut to 135 (Carano nearly did once already). I think Erin Toughill is the only other top-20 woman who's that big. She's another former American Gladiator, and I think she'd be a natural choice for Strikeforce to promote alongside Carano and Cyborg, but she's signed with PFC. Larosa would probably be willing to concede 10-15 lbs to fight any of those women, especially Carano, but that might be it.

Four fighters does not a division make.

Lost respect for her for this. She needs to make weight, she wasn't even close....I hope Akano wins.

I didn't like this fight at all, it was like tossing kenflo in with Arlovski. The size and weight difference made this fight really uncompetitive and for all the advantages Cyborg had she seemed a bit slow. Even from the start of the fight every time Cyborg would uncork all Akano could do is cover up.

Yeah, me neither. With 3-minute rounds and weight mismatches, it's pretty clear that the people "promoting" women's MMA don't have a ton of respect for the athletes.
