The UFC will be adding yet another new weight class in the future as the strawweights (115lbs) get their shot in the Octagon.

Now the timing of when that will happen remains a mystery, but UFC President Dana White confirmed when speaking to UFC Tonight on Tuesday that they are planning to add the additional division at some point down the road.

“As the sport continues to grow and we go into these other markets like Latin America, Asia, yes, we will eventually open up a lighter weight division. Which is a great thing. It’s an amazing opportunity for fighters all over the world,” said White.

Man, I'll be honest here, I have absolutely no interest in Strawweights.
I have not heard of one fighter in this 115 pound class, nor have I seen any promotion ever have a fight at this class, probably for a reason.
This is a bad move for the UFC, I don't want them to become like boxing, just leave the weight classes as is Dana!

I'm happy they're adding this division but I don't see it happening for a while. I mean, they only have 10-15 guys in the Flyweight division right now. They should focus on that first, then the women's division.

No need for another weight class.

There are enough of them right now. Plus you still need to build up flyweight.

115 weight class just sounds crazy, that's what like teenage girls weigh.

Yet fox 6 was a world title fight no mention of 125lbs. If they have a 115 class I hope its asian woman with at least 15lbs of bolt ons busting from their sports bras.

I just can't see it happening. Flyweight is far enough.

Completely personal opinion, but I'd rather them build a 115 lb. division than a women's division.

I'm guessing midget weight class is next after 115 is added.

There are phenomenal boxers under 115 pounds, MMA has the potential to have the same thing. I admit, I'm surprised by this announcement, I thought Dana said no more weight classes, but people should give it a chance before totally shitting on it.

Kenny Florian just announced he is coming out of retirement.

On the real, I'd rather see a super heavy weight class or even a 230 class. If you're too small to fight 125 you probably shouldn't be fighting.

Not a fan of this announcement. I'm a fan of the Flyweight Division although they need to build that Division before adding another.
I'm even okay with the Women's Bantamweight Division. But that's where I draw the line.
Why fix what's not broken. The UFC should just leave everything (weight classes) the way they are.
I even think the 230 lbs weight class should never happen. As a HW if you are under 230 lbs you can make the 206 lbs. And the HW Division isn't al that deep either.

Sod that, we need a super HW division so Brock comes back and fights Giant Silva, James Thompson and Bob Sapp.

Next will be Paperweight because they won't weigh more than a sheet of paper.

Those little guys will be quick as fuck.

That's what I'm saying. SHW fights are rarely technical but always entertaining.

SHW>StrawWeight>WMMA

I'm not even really interested in 135 or 125. I'm not interested at all in WMMA.

These fights are gonna suck.

They always try to tell me how fast these guys are and how technical they are.....

But I just can't get into it. They have trouble hitting each other. When they do, there's rarely much power. They don't have enough weight to hold each other down. Really just not fun to watch.

Not really interested unless they put on more shows. Shit moves so slow as far as movement in the divisions.

i really enjoyed the MM/Dodson fight & i enjoy 125 division, but there's like 6 guys in that division. we're going to see so many rematches, it's ridiculous. until they build it up & make it credible, 115 should never happen.
WMMA is already getting its chance & they have even less fighters than the 125s!
i think it should be years before they even discuss another weigh class.

Wouldn't a straw weight division mean Ronda Rousey could stare down at smaller male fighters and run her mouth about them too ???

I think Dana may have meant this as a women weight class. They need more weight classes for women...a straweight is fine. Most in shape women are between the weighst of 105 and 145 anyhow. if your 105-120, you fight straweight, if you are 125-145 you fight at bantam weight. Some have to give up weight, others have to cut. In all reality you can have a decent, almost complete women divison with onnly two belts.

But yea, no men.
