So close... Dick Pole retired with the Mariners after the 1978 season while Rusty Kuntz broke into the major leagues with the White Sox in 1979. If only Dick could've kept it up for one more year (his velocity).... we were THAT close to having Dick Pole pitch to Rusty Kuntz.

Vernon Wells is a Yankee $21 mil this year and next year...so much for cutting payroll.

Yankee's DL payroll
would rank 17th among all MLB payrolls

It actually helps towards their effort in reducing payroll and getting to $189 mil by 2014

how does paying Wells $21 mil next season help them cut payroll? Are they expecting A-rod and Tex to restructure their contracts? Or will Jeter and Pettite actually retire?

The Vernon Wells contract will actually help the Yankees' goal of being below $189 million in payroll for 2014, a source confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com on Monday. The Daily News first reported the finances. All the particulars of the money for the deal with the Angels have not yet been finalized, but the Yankees will end up paying somewhere between $12 million and $14 million of the $42 million owed to Wells in the final two years of his contract. The Yankees will likely end up doling out $10 million or $11 million for 2013 and $2 million or $3 million for 2014. It is a complicated formula, but, in the end, Wells' money will either have no impact on the $189 million goal for 2014 or the Yankees will receive a credit. Since Wells' contract has been traded once before, the Yankees may receive as much as a $2 million savings toward their '14 luxury tax figure. So Wells potentially will help on the field and in the boardroom. The Yankees and Angels are finalizing the money because the deal could also help Los Angeles' luxury tax situation. So when you evaluate the deal, it makes it look better. The Yankees are taking a flyer on Wells -- whose looked good in the spring -- while possibly getting luxury tax relief.

looking at the Cubs' schedule I have them going 74-88 this year. But that doesn't mean we won't have some excitement from Anthony 'The Prodigy' Rizzo. Rizzon! RizzOMG! Rizz in my pants! I just Rizzed all over myself! You get the point.....

Opening weekend is about to start. I wish I was at the Rogers Centre tonight to boo John Farrell in his return to Toronto after taking his "dream job"

I feel bad for Darvish being 1 out away from a perfect game. I don't understand the mentality of those batters trying to spoil it. You won't win the game, the guy is having the game of his life, just Cabrera it and watch strike 3. A couple years ago I hit a flukey blooper over SS to spoil the guy's no-no with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th (final inning in the tourny) and as a fellow pitcher I felt terrible...I tried to just stick my bat out and hit a dribbler if I made contact. The guy had about 13 K's in the 7 innings with 1 walk.

Michael Morse on pace for 162 HR's after hitting his 4th in 4 games last night, this after hitting the most of any player in spring training with 9. I think he'll end up around 180 home runs, but I may be lowballing it.

Am I the only one that see's the resemblance between Rolling Stones Keith Richards and Yankees 3rd baseman Alex Rodriquez? Maybe it's just their age.
