Exactly what I thought too. Seems cheap.

Duffee's KO wasn't very cool. Thiago's was much better.

Nate KO'd the tougher opponent, therefore he gets KO of the night. And who really thought that this fight would end in 30 some seconds. Completely agree with that KO of the night.

I guess I figure they both could have been given it. I don't think that scoring a KO on a BJJ guy with VERY suspect striking is that big a deal. He trew a kick doing the windsheild wiper with his arms just like every other inexperianced striker. I didn't think it would happen that quick. But I fighured a ko would happen. You can also factor in the fact that Duffee was only brining in 10,000 for his fight and Marquardt was banking 80,000.

Edit:
As for how quickly it ended who thought the Duffee fight would end in 7 seconds. Never happened before why would it happen now?

KO of the night was probably one of the hardest decisions they have had to make for that award. Thiago, Marquardt, and Duffee all deserved it, and would have gotten it on most nights. I think giving it to Marquardt is a good call because his was the most significant win. He is now in line for a title shot, or at the most one fight away. Thiagos KO puts him right in the mix of top contenders, but he was coming off a loss and still has some work to do before a title shot. Also it wasn't as fast as Marquardts or Duffees. Duffees KO was a record and its hard not to give it to him, but unfortunately for him he had two other huge KOs on the main card to contend with. I would think if he gets a decent KO in his next few fights Dana will feel obligated to give it to him.

This is my biggest problem with it also. It's happened on multiple occasions, too. Why not give the guys who are making only a small percentage of what the main card fighters are making the bonus, as long as they are deserving.

Boxing is so weak compared to mma, earnings w/ boxers is one of the biggest problems with that sport.

Duane Ludwig unofficially own the fastest KO at 4 seconds over Jonathan Goulet at UFN 3

Duffee may be faster then the official 7 second but its not as quick as 4

Actually, it was (I think) a year ago that a fight in Japan ended in TWO seconds. True, wasn't in UFC but there's your unofficial record there.

Here is how I look at the awards

All of them are the best picks hands down.

As for KO fo the night. I don't think there is or should be any special consideration given to fighters for these awards with respect to who is getting more or less money for a fight. These awards are to reward both skill and desire to finish fights, not offset a less established fighter's payroll.

As for why Nate got the KO nod, again it should have nothing to do with how experienced the opponent is in striking. I think it came down (and rightfully so) to the fact that it was a prettier KO. KOs that happen when both fighters are standing are much nicer looking and dramatic than GnP KOs.

Marq's KO was awesome. The big guy's KO was just quick.
