Bobby Lawrence Karate has been amazing for me.
The style involves traditonal kenpo karate; traditional kata (choreographed forms), traditional kumite (sparring) and everything you would expect from a proper karate school. Belt levels starting at white, ending in black with succeeding degrees (dan). This is the heart of the instruction.
But not only do we do this, Bobby Lawrence, who was made master by Ed Parker, the very famous American Kenpo Sensei, has also incorporated very useful techniques into our training that come from other martial arts forms such as Judo, Tae Kwan Do and Muay thai.
The integration of these other techniques into our training has given Bobby Lawrence the idea to create the style of "Kwon Shu" which is the integration of Kenpo (the main focus of training), Tae Kwan Do (kicking styles), Muay Thai (clinch, knees and powerful kicks) and Judo (throws, opponent control and self defense).
A weekly grappling/jiu jitsu class is also offered at my dojo that I take as well.
My instructor, Eric, is a 3rd Dan (3rd degree) Black Belt soon to be a 4th Dan and is really great as a teacher. He communicates very clearly and effectively, and his demonstration of techniques clearly shows he has mastered them. He performs them with balance, precision and power.
For those of you in the Utah area looking to join a great karate school, or enroll your children, I highly reccomend Bobby Lawrence Karate.
Proud student of BLK
