Shonie Carter - Mr. International
A secondary star on The Ultimate Fighter 4 and one of the most winning MMA fighters of all time, “Mr. International” Shonie Carter never fails to leave an impression. Born Mearion Shonie Bickhem III in Chicago, Illinois on May 3rd, 1972, Carter appeared on Spike TV’s reality series after fighting in various leagues, including the Ultimate Fighting Championship, since 1997.
Carter had split his UFC record with three wins and three losses when he was selected to appear on The Ultimate Fighter, winning bouts over Brad Gumm, Adrian Serrano and rival Matt Serra. Carter won his first match on the television show, knocking Rich Clementi out in the first round. This set up a rematch between Carter and Matt Serra, an opportunity that Serra said he had long anticipated. Carter lost that match, vindicating Serra and sparking hopes of a third bout between the pair.
“Mr. International” is most well-known for his patented spinning back fist, a strike with the backhand of the fist while spinning towards your opponent. This famed punch was the deciding blow against Matt Serra in their first bout, knocking him out instantly. Carter did manage to land the punch in their second match as well, but without the same effect.
