Renzo Gracie

Renzo Gracie was born on March 11th, 1967 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A member of the legendary Gracie family, Renzo has been practicing Brazilian jiu jitsu since he could walk. Renzo has competed in many mixed martial arts events and hold wins over notable fighters such as Frank Shamrock, Pat Miletich and Carlos Newton.

Renzo spent the majority of his career fighting in the PRIDE Fighting Championships, but he has also fought with the Internation Fight League, the RINGS organization, the Martial Arts Reality Superfighting league, and the World Combat Championship. He went on to launch both a training school and a team of fighters for the Internation Fight League, acting as lead trainer at the Renzo Gracie Academy and coaching his New York Pitbulls at the same time.

February of 2007 saw Gracie fight in a brutal match against Frank Shamrock at the EliteXC debut event televised on Showtime. After Shamrock received a warning during the first round against kicking in the head while his opponent was down, the savagery continued in the second. Referee Herb Dean called a stop to the fight after Shamrock continued to deliver knees to Gracie’s head on the ground.
