Peter Aerts - The Dutch Lumberjack
Peter “The Dutch Lumberjack” Aerts was born on October 25th, 1970 in the Netherlands. With both his father and uncle actively training in Tae Kwon Doe, it was only natural that Peter do the same. He added kickboxing to his resume beginning in 1984 and had won his first kickboxing championship by the time he turned 20.
After fighting with the same club his entire kickboxing career, Aerts joined the Champs club in Eindhoven and became world champion for the second time. He quickly switched clubs again, this time joining the Chakuriki gym owned and operation by Thom Harinck. K-1 kickboxing championships came for Aerts in 1994, 1995, and 1998. After a falling out with Harinck, Aerts began training with the Mejiro Gym under Andre Mannaert.
Aerts entered the 2006 K-1 World Grand Prix as an alternate fighter and easily defeated his first opponent, Musashi, with a knockout in the first round. Remy Bonjasky, Aerts’ second round opponent, pulled out due to injury and the Dutchman was set to battle Semmy Schilt in the final round. Aerts lost by decision.
Aerts fought Bob Sapp in June of 2007, knocking him out at 15 seconds of the first round and effectively ending Sapps’ career as a kickboxer.
