Mauricio Rua - "Shogun"
Mauricio Rua also known as "Shogun" Rua was born November 25, 1981 in Curitiba, Brazil. As a mixed martial arts fighter he holds numerous wins; some of the most notable including victories over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Alistair Overeem, Ricardo Arona and Quinton Jackson. Rua is most well known for his Muay Thai ability.
Hailing from the well known Chute Boxe Academy; which is a Muay Thai training group, Rua obtained his Muay Thai black belt in December, 2004. Rua has become well known for having mastered both a well developed round game as well as striking skills. He also holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Rua's older brother, Murilo "Ninja" Rua, is also a Chute Boxe member and the two are quite close. The brothers' family still lives in Curitiba where their father is a successful business and their mother is a marathon runner. Their younger brother, Marco "Shaolin" Rua is also a mixed martial artist who trains at Chute Boxe as well.
Initially, Mauricio began training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu when he was quite young. He proved to be quite successful in championships at both the blue and purple belt levels. Following in his older brother's footsteps he began training in Muay Thai at the Chute Boxe Academy.
Mauricio's career began at the Meca World Vale Tudo in Brazil. During his debut event he fought Rafael Capoeira and managed to knock him out with a kick to the head during the first round. He then went on to beat his teammate Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos during the Meca World Vale Tudo 9. Since that time he has continued to achieve success.
