Kendall Grove

Kendall ‘Da Spyder’ Grove was born on November 12th, 1982 in Maui, Hawaii. After beginning jiu jitsu training during his freshman year of high school Grove branched out to train in general wrestling as well. After moving to Las Vegas following high school, Grove began training with Phil Baroni, among others, and was soon interested in pursuing a professional career in mixed martial arts. After training for several months he was ready for a test of his fighting abilities. In an amateur match Grove won the fight by knocking out several of his opponents teeth with a knee to the face.

The combination of Grove’s early training success and his association with well-known trainer Phil Baroni was enough to catch the eye of UFC management and earn Grove a spot on the third season of Spike TV’s The Ultimate Fighter. A rear naked choke sealed a victory in Grove’s first fight on the show versus Ross Pointon and he was scheduled for a semi-final match against Kalib Starnes. The Starnes/Grove matchup was very close through the first round but Starnes was forced to verbally submit after sustaining a rib injury during the second round. The series finale pitted Grove against highly rated Ed Herman in the final match. The fight was very close but Grove came out on top with a unanimous decision, winning him a six-figure contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

With his win on The Ultimate Fighter behind him, Grove needed to find a camp of fighters to train with. He quickly received an invite from Tito Ortiz to train with his Team Punishment in Big Bear City, California. UFC management scheduled his first professional bout against Patrick Cote at UFC 74.
