Keith Jardine - The Dean of Mean

Keith Hector Jardine was born on October 31st, 1975 in Butte, Montana. After combining his street fighting skills with light martial arts training, Jardine began fighting in 2001.

“The Dean of Mean” made his mixed martial arts debut in 2001, defeating opponent Amir Rahnavardi with an armbar submission. After winning five of his next six fights, Jardine began competing in the Pancrase organization based in Japan in 2003. One draw and two wins later, Jardine was invited to compete on the second season of Spike TV’s The Ultimate Fighter.

Fighting under coach Rich Franklin, expectations were high that Jardine would fight well and potentially win the heavyweight portion of the tournament. After sitting out the first round, Jardine lost to eventual UFC heavyweight Rashad Evans, ending his time on the show.

Although he lost the competition, the UFC decided to keep Jardine on to see what he was capable of. He went on to defeat his next two opponents, but rivals from his appearance on the reality show, by TKO. The wins kept coming for Jardine until he was scheduled to battle UFC newcomer Houston Alexander at UFC 71. Jardine complained very publically about having to fight a “newbie” before being knocked out 48 seconds into the match after a vicious and aggressive attack by Alexander. Keith has since rebounded with a solid victory over former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell.
