Josh Barnett - "The Babyface Assassin"

Josh Barnett, of UFC fame, was born Joshua L. Barnett on November 10, 1977 in Seattle, Washington. As an American heavyweight mixed martial arts fighter as well as a professional wrestler, Barnett holds wins over Mark Hunt, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Randy Couture, Yuki Kondo and Dan Severn. In 2002, Barnett defeated Randy Couture to become the youngest UFC heavyweight champion. Unfortunately, he was stripped of the title later that year after he tested positive for EQ, a steroid. His fighting license was also temporarily suspended, a decision made by the Nevada Athletic Commission. After this, he began a career oversees as a professional wrestler; fighting with the New Japan Pro Wrestling organization. He also continued to fight in MMA events. In 2004, during a match against Mirko Filipovic, Barnett suffered a fracture that required surgery as well as several months of rehab. His first fight after recovery was a rematch with Filipovic. That math was a defeat by unanimous decision. His next match; however, did prove to be successful as Barnett scored a win against Kazuhiro Nakamura. He also went on to beat Aleksander Emelianenko during the first round of the PRIDE Open Weight Grand Prix at PRIDE Total Elimination Absolute. During the second round of the Open Weight Grand Prix at PRIDE Critical Countdown Absolute he also submitted Mark Hunt through kimura during the second round. His success continued as he defeated Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira through what would be a controversial split decision in the semi finals of the Open Weight Grand Prix. Unfortunately, he lost the final match of the PRIDE Final Conflict Absolute in his third consecutive loss to Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic.

Before gaining permission to fight in PRIDE 32, held in Nevada, Barnett was required to pass a mandatory drug test. He did pass the test and went on to control the first round and much of the second round against the Polish Judo gold medalist Pawel Nastula. After reversing Natsula from the bottom and securing toe-hold submissions, he won the match. Interestingly, Nastula did test positive for steroids.
