Jason MacDonald - The Athlete

Jason Anthony “The Athlete” MacDonald was born on June 3rd, 1975 in Merigomish, Nova Scotia, Canada. MacDonald has been training in mixed martial arts since he was a teenager and began fighting professionally in 1999.

After laying down an impressive record while fighting with PAC, NLO, MFC, and WEF organizations, MacDonald was invited to the Ultimate Fighting Championship in 2006. Jason’s UFC debut pitted him against The Ultimate Fighter 3 finalist Ed Herman and MacDonald reigned victorious with a triangle choke in the very first round. Only two months later MacDonald entered the octagon versus noted UFC fighter Chris Leben, winning that bout with a modified guillotine choke in the second round.

With his impressive victories, UFC management decided to match MacDonald up against a far greater challenge. This challenge came in the form of UFC veteran Rich Franklin at UFC 68: Uprising in Franklin’s first UFC fight in over a year. MacDonald fought well through the first two rounds but Franklin was able to straddle him and rain a hail of blows to his face in the closing seconds of the second round. With serious damage to MacDonald’s face in the area of his left eye, doctors advised him to throw in the towel.

MacDonald returned to the UFC at the UFC 72 event where he defeated Rory “Outburst” Singer with a technical knockout due to strikes in the second round.
