David Tank Abbott
Invalid id!
David “Tank” Abbott was born on April 26th, 1965 in Huntington Beach, California. After combining his existing street fighting skills with wrestling and martial arts, “Tank” was invited to be one of the original fighters in the then-upstart Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Abbott made his UFC debut at UFC 6: Clash of the Titans in 1995, taking on two fighters in one night. After knocking out 400 pound John Matua in only 18 seconds, Abbott fell victim to a rear naked choke in his second bout against Oleg Taktarov.
While never a very effective fighter, Abbott quickly built a reputation based on both his vicious look and his unorthodox style of street fighting as opposed to martial arts. He soon left the UFC for the WCW, a league that he thought better suited his abilities. Abbott proved to be a lackluster professional wrestler and his career with the WCW quickly ended. He returned to the UFC for UFC 41, losing that bout to Frank Mir at 41 seconds of the very first round. “Tank” bounced between leagues for a time, fighting with both the UFC and PRIDE organizations, and not having much luck in either.
