Chris “Lights Out” Lytle was born on August 18th, 1974 in Indianapolis, Indiana. While looking for an extracurricular activity to keep him busy, Chris began formal training in 1998 before going on to fight professionally in the Hook n’ Shoot and Absolute Championship Fighting organizations.
Chris was invited to compete on the fourth season of Spike TV’s reality series The Ultimate Fighter. After defeating Pete Spratt and Din Thomas in the quarter-final and semi-final rounds respectively, Lytle went on to meet Matt Serra in the welterweight finale. With scores of 30-27 from all three judges, Lytle lost by a unique split decision. Because the loss was close and the fight itself was exciting, the UFC allowed Lytle an opportunity anyway.
Lytle next met Matt Hughes at UFC 68 where he lost by unanimous decision. Lytle returned for UFC 73, taking on Jasson Gilliam. After controlling Gilliam well, Lytle was able to establish a takedown near the end of the first round. Chris continued to work from the top position and was eventually able to lock an inverted triangle choke and an inverted arm bar to win the fight.
